The Council of Minorities exists to advocate for the rights, representation, and well-being of marginalized and under represented communities. Through community engagement, policy advocacy, education, and cultural empowerment, the Council works to ensure equity, inclusion, and social justice for all minority groups. Our mission is to amplify voices, influence positive change, and foster a society where diversity is recognized as a strength.

Legal Empowerment

TANIA AKTER

A story of overcoming from barriers

Tania Akter is an 8 years old girls child by born physically disabled a resident of Patgudam Camp Mymensign. She can’t sit, stand and move. Tanya’s father is unemployed and her mother is working as cook in a Madrasha and she earns very small amount as salary which is not enough to manage family expenses and for the treatment cost of Tania.

 

One day her mother attended a community group meeting organized by Paralegla Mr. Nesar Ahmed and after the meeting Tania’s mother requested to paralegal to arrange a wheelchair for Tania. Paralegal drafted a story of Tania and attached a picture and submitted to an NGO named “Human Rights and Advocacy Forum” in Mymensign.

 

The President of HRAF posted on his facebook and appeal to his friends and family members to provide a wheelchair to a physically challenge girl Tania. After posting the appeal post for the wheelchair a leady professor responded him and said to purchase a wheelchair for Tania and she (Professor) paid Taka 8,000/- USD 68 for the wheelchair.

 

Tania and his family are happy to get wheelchair and now paralegal is preparing documents of Tania for her birth certificate and after getting the birth certificate paralegal will apply for disable allowance for Tania in Social Welfare office.
